Fresh Snow and Beautiful weather on tap for the remainder of this week and the BIG GAME Sunday.

Resorts welcomed the fresh snow after the warm weather and Snain (snow/rain) started falling last Thursday. When it was all said and done, Heavenly reported 18-24” of fresh snow, Sierra at Tahoe got 21-34” and Kirkwood received 22-39” of fresh powder. Conditions have definitely improved and the cold overnight temperatures are allowing Resorts to continue to add machine made snow to their runs.

Talk is that there’s 17 feet of snow expected in the month of February.

Heavenly hosted a “Usual Suspects” media weekend for members of the North American Snowsports Association complete with accommodations at the newly refurbished and opened 968 Park Spa Resort. This is the first Eco Friendly Hotel constructed on South Shore with 100% natural and sustainable materials. Recycled woods and organically grown fabrics and décor is the theme of this property. Check it out. And, only a block and a half to the Gondola.

The Usual Suspect enjoyed the comedy of Don Rickles in Harrah’s famous South Shore Room, celebrating their 50th anniversary. Harrah’s has a great line up of entertainers coming in with Smokey Robinson, Tony Orlando, Styx and more performing in February to continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the South Shore Room. After the hilarity of Rickles, we dined at Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo at Harvey’s where the lines were forming for live music and more fun after 10:00pm. Later that evening I ventured up to the Fox & Hound on Tramway Drive, located between Heavenly’s Boulder and Stagecoach lifts. Favorite local recording band, Lavish Green, was laying down their tunes for a “It’s Time to Party” crowd.

Skiing at Heavenly this weekend was fun with fresh powder tracks made in the trees and all over both side of the mountain. It continued to snow on and off and crowds were definitely using the newly expanded East Peak Lodge seating and dining area. I was hosted to a lunch at the Gunbarrel Grill in the Lakeview Lodge at the top of the Tram. Most folks spend around $20 for lunch and for a couple of bucks more, one can enjoy a great lunch with a beautiful view. For around $22, enjoy a great a salad bar complete with green salad, fresh fruit, assortment of cheeses, meats and more, plus choice of seafood bisque or 7-bean soup plus choice of entrée from Scallops, Petite Filet, Lamp Chops and more… All, beautifully presented and all, GOOD FOOD. What’s great about dining in the Gunbarrel Grill is that it is quick for a sit down lunch experience. Check it out… you won’t be disappointed.

Saturday evening found the Usual Suspects dinning at The Riva Grill next to the Lake at Ski Run Marina. Riva Grill is famous for their “Wet Woody” rum drink and beautiful views of the Lake. The food and service is always exceptional with live entertainment as well.

Big Game Sunday is usually a good day to hit the slopes as most folks tend to be more concerned about watching the game and hosting their own parties. All the Casinos / Sports books and Sports Bars will be hosting parties with drink and food specials. With game time not till later in the afternoon, the skiing and riding should be less crowded and you can bet that the Big Game will be featured on all resort TV’s. Enjoy a Super Week and Super Weekend at Lake Tahoe!
